Who doesn't love spending a Saturday afternoon brewery hopping?
Here you'll find a complete list of the best breweries that are rapidly popping up around the Fredericksburg region in no particular order! Some are small, some are large, but each one has their own unique vibe so you should probably just try them all!
6 Bears and a Goat Brewing Company
Hidden in the craziness of Route 17 in Stafford is 6 Bears and a Goat Brewing Company. You might be wondering how that name came about -
"6 Bears & a Goat Brewing Co., LLC (6B&G) is named after its founders (and the mascots of their respective military services). The six Bears are 20-year retirees from the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Goat is a retiree from the U.S. Navy. Collectively, the 6 Bears & a Goat have served their country for over 140 years. While we are very serious about brewing beer, we want to have fun doing it, and our name is indicative of that…it is also indicative of the good-natured rivalry between the Navy and our Nation’s oldest continuous seagoing service, the United States Coast Guard.
6 Bears and a Goat usually has something special going on each night of the week - except they're closed on Monday's. During the weekend you can expect live music, a DJ or even karaoke. They are one of the few breweries in the area that also serves food! Be sure to check out their happy hour and Sunday brunch specials.
Adventure North: 33 Perchwood Dr #101, Fredericksburg, VA 22405
Adventure South: 3300 Dill Smith Dr, Fredericksburg, VA 22408
Adventure Brewing has two locations. They began their journey in Stafford, and then added a second location further south in Fredericksburg. Adventure brewing is all about making beers for the adventurous person. Whether you like to go rock climbing, white water rafting, or just want to pretend you do by drinking a beer with a rock climber on the label, you can do that too!
Both the north and south locations feature pretty much the same beers with just a few differences. Two of their most popular beers are the Expedition IPA and the Fred Red, an Irish Red Ale. Be sure to swing by either location when they've got a food truck or check out one of their events - they host an annual Oktoberfest that is always a great time!
Maltese Brewing Company is located in Spotsylvania County. They have and indoor taproom as well as two outdoor seating areas - in which the outdoor areas are dog friendly! Here's how their brewery came about:
"Maltese Brewing Company was founded and started by Bobby Cook and Joseph Smith. Two firefighters with a passion for craft beer, which brought them together. When the two heroes were not saving homeless babies from their burning mansions, they loved getting together to create delicious home brew. A past time that the two could share while their little ones were running a muck in the house. Many home brews and band-aids later (don't worry they're professionals) the two decided that they could make better use of their time by finding part time jobs. After many more brewing sessions to discuss this further, they decided to sell their beer! Thus the creation of the world's most awesome nano-brewery began..." - Maltese Brewing Company Website
Their taproom features a few flagship beers, as well as seasonal beers that are rotated in and out. They have food trucks that frequently park outside as well as a seasonal outdoor Biergarten with Corn Hole and other fun games!
Red Dragon Brewery is located in Downtown Fredericksburg. They frequently have live music, trivia night, and other fun events. You can find tons of different board games in their tasting room up for grabs which makes it a fun way to enjoy a Saturday afternoon.
They've got a decent selection of craft beer for everyone's taste, and if you visit on a Saturday, you can choose to do a tour of the brewery and learn about the beer making process as well as the renovations done on the building to get it in the shape it's in today!
Spencer Devon Brewing is another brewery in the area that also serves food. They are located in downtown Fredericksburg in the heart of everything! All of their meals are prepared with ingredients sourced from local farms. They host special beer dinners throughout the year that pairs one of their beers with each course of your meal. It's tons of fun, and the pairing is always amazing.
Their Sunday Brunch also features a bloody mary bar and create your own mimosas for those who aren't huge beer fans and just want to go for the food!
350 Lansdowne Rd, Fredericksburg, VA 22401
The second location for a Richmond based brewery, Strangeways has something everyone will love. With 96 draft lines split between the indoor and outdoor area, there's tons of beer to go around despite some of the strange names.
The tasting room features an arcade, tons of board games, a stage for live music, and a huge space for events. You can play Corn Hole outside on a nice day and even grab a bite to eat from one of the rotating food trucks!
Address: 11109 Plank Rd, Spotsylvania Courthouse, VA 22553
1781 Brewing Company is actually at the same location as Wilderness Winery. They created their own space inside of the winery tasting room barn with their own tasting room for the brewery.

The end result displays our painstaking craftsmanship and creativity. Join us for a taste of true farm brewing." - 1781 Website
The brewery is still fairly new, but they're rockin' and rollin'. There's tons of outdoor seating on the farm, and you can wander down to the other side of the property to visit some of the animals - they've got peacocks, turkeys, horses and more! When the weather is nice, their outdoor stage will host live music. It's a perfect place to bring a picnic lunch, take in the scenery, and enjoy a cold one with good friends.
Highmark Brewery is a little hidden gem off the beaten path located in Stafford County just outside of downtown Fredericksburg. While the outside might seem small, their beer selection has something for everyone. If you ask for a flight, you can get a few beers to taste to find out which one is for you!
